5 Important Things to Consider when Choosing a Niche for Your Blog

5 Important Things to Consider when Choosing a Niche for Your Blog

What is Niche Marketing?

Niche marketing is a strategy that aims at a particular customer base. By marketing our product or content at a group of people interested in the same niche we can get the exposure we need to the correct kinds of people. Many ambitious newbie marketers can make a big mistake by not choosing their niche correctly. So here are some useful pointers to remember before you choose your niche for your blog.

1. Is it something you’re interested in?

This is probably the most important factor when it comes to choosing a niche. This is mainly because it is very difficult to write about or effectively promote something you aren’t interested in. Remember those subjects you loathed in school? Well you don’t want to go through that experience again do you? One of the best methods for writing content is to be both the reader and the audience, so to speak, that way, you already know what your audience wants from your website. Just have a think about your interests and see what ideas pop up.

2. How targeted is your niche?

Many blogs start out by making their niche too broad. They want to write about everything there is to do with their niche, which isn’t necessary, and most of the time, it doesn’t work. What does work is directing your audience’s attention onto a straight-forward objective that they want to achieve. Otherwise the amount of choices to make will overwhelm the reader and they won’t be as familiar with your brand/blog’s identity and direction. what if your niche marketing choice is too broad

3. How well do you know your niche?

I recommend having at least 1 year invested into learning about your niche. Without having the knowledge to help your readers as much as you can, your content will be lacking. What will help your content to thrive is sprucing it up with as many tips and as much useful information as possible. But if you don’t have a years knowledge then get learning, get subscribing to informative sources, like social media pages, read forums, ebooks, blogs, follow all the experts. Whilst reading all this material, you should pick up all the niche marketing tips on the way.

4. What kind of design does your niche usually work with?

Getting your website’s design right is vital to its success, so it needs a lot of thought and planning put into it. You need to know what kind of aesthetic attracts your target audience. The best way of doing this is by reading other websites that cater to your niche. And if you’re interested in your niche, which you should be, then you’ll have already been reading plenty of blogs within your niche. For example Lisa Cox’s gardening blog has a very clean and neatly arranged look, with large images to show off the gardens.Lisa Cox garden design blog

5. How can you beat your competition?

What do you have that your competitors don’t have? How can you beat them to the punch? You need to get thinking of how you can make your blog worthy of their time. For SEO keyword targeting, use Google Adwords to get some ideas. And remember you won’t be climbing very high in the search listings by using generic SEO keywords, marketing your niche as interesting and a little different from the rest will require digging a little deeper and getting more specific with blog post ideas and titles. One way to research your competition as well as adwords, is rather than just seeing adwords notify you that it is a low competition keyword, just google search the keyword and refer to the number of search results as seen in the image below:

what is niche marketing

Summary

So you see that making sure you definitely have the correct niche for your blogging plans is very important. If you don’t have the correct niche, you won’t be able to beat your competition, design and market the content correctly and you could end up failing, having put a lot of hard work to waste. So bookmark and share this page and please subscribe if you don’t want to miss out on any legitimate internet marketing schemes.

1 Simple and Profitable Method – Blogging about your Hobby + Amazon Affiliates

1 Simple and Profitable Method – Blogging about your Hobby + Amazon Affiliates

1. Create a Blog

Start a blog from a niche that is ideally based on a hobby of yours. It’s better to make sure you’ve been interested in it for a while so that you’ve got plenty to write about.

For your hosting provider, my favourite and the one with the best value (that I know of) is Bluehost from £6.95 per month.

For your blogging platform, choose WordPress, this is the most popular and flexible blogging platform with a huge variety of plugins the WordPress community has developed.

You can choose to work with a designer, or try to create the theme on your own. If you don’t want the headache of learning to code, there are drag and drop builders l recommend like Make and Beaver Builder. There are other drag and drop builders like Divi and X which are very good but you will never be able to change your theme if you go with these which can be a concern when you want to sell the blog when you’re bored of it.

For designing your blog see How to Design a Blog in 2016.

2. Apply for Amazon Associates

Find products for sale on Amazon related to your niche.

This should be an easy task as Amazon sells just about EVERYTHING.

Join the Amazon associates program.amazonassociates

If you refer someone to the Amazon website, whatever they buy in the next year, you’ll get 4% of and if you earn a lot with their program you can climb up to 10%. Sure the percentage you make from an Amazon referral is a lot smaller than what you make from say a Clickbank sale. But Amazon has a lot more products available, and so they definitely convert.

You don’t even need to know how to sell. Amazon does all the work for you. You just have to have the products available.

3. Write product reviews.

Write honest reviews about products related to your blog. Give the pros and cons and tell people where they can purchase the product if they are interested (hint: Amazon using your affiliate link.)

4. Write tutorials.

You can find tutorials around the internet related to your niche and if you like them, just learn them and rewrite the tutorial in your own words. It also helps to include information you’ve learned in the past that you think would spruce up this tutorial and make it stand out from the rest. Document the tutorial with a little creativity, taking photos of the affiliate product involved and provide the Amazon affiliate link.

Hint: You can provide the affiliate link twice by including a ‘What You’ll Need’ box in the top right or left of your post.

5. Write targeted blog posts

Write interesting articles with a focus on more specific detail. For example to start a fitness blog, you wouldn’t go for a post titled “How to Get Great Abs.” Many people have done this before, all these keywords and phrases are taken and so you’ll have to be more targeted with your articles.

You should try going for posts with a title like “What are the best types of food to eat before a jog?” This is more specific and it could be changed slightly by using a top ten foods instead, or meals, linking to various recipes (when linking to other blogs you should always @ the creator of the content in the hopes they’ll retweet/share the post so that you can hijack their audience count). The point is that it pays to be more specific as there is a lot less competition in the search listings.

At the end of the post you can make a little recommendation for Amazon  “My 3 Favourite Jogging Pants”, here you’ll suggest 3 jogging pants that can be purchased on Amazon.

You can also just implement a selection of Amazon products into the blog, but when you make it personal to you and relevant to the blog post, it looks and feels more genuine.

Summary

So that is a very simple way to make money blogging with Amazon Affiliates Program. Many times people get caught up in all the different and exciting ideas for a blog that there is no certain direction for it. So it is worth having everything planned out and and a clear objective so that you can be a successful affiliate of Amazon.

15 Ways to Get More Followers on Pinterest

15 Ways to Get More Followers on Pinterest

10 Ways to Get More Followers on Pinterest

Knowing how to get more followers on Pinterest is an essential skill that the social media marketer needs to know in 2017. In the list below I have put together detailed research into how you can effectively get more Pinterest followers that will stay with you for the long-term.

1. Only Pin things related to your niche

Make sure that potential followers see on your Pinterest the things they will want to see posted onto their Pinterest home page. You will see things occasionally that will have nothing to do with your niche, but they interest you nonetheless, what you must do is to resist pinning! If you have another personal Pinterest more suited to your other interests then Pin it to that, if you don’t, then make one! Your followers will only want to see what interested them in your pins in the first place.

2. Be creative with your boards

Show off your creativity on your Pinterest, be proud of your Pin layout and arrangement of boards. Try to create interesting boards that are useful to potential followers. When thinking of a board to create, think of a collection of inspiring and useful things you would like to see yourself. More importantly, have a gander around Pinterest and collect some inspiration!

3. Edit your pin descriptions

Something that has been known to bring many bloggers success is to pin your blog posts like a note to self. Often the pin that they will come across will be on it’s own and will have to speak for itself. If a person has written a description that sounds like they highly value the link for the pin, then it seems authentic. Many successful pins come from descriptions that label it using exaggeration, such as ‘This is the best…’ or ‘LOVE this….’.

4. Venture further than Pinterest

If you stick on the Pinterest homepage just scrolling and recycling everything you see there, then you’re missing out. I noticed that when I pin something new, I get plenty more repins than if I just repin within Pinterest.

5. Make images vertical and add text

This is essential for Pinterest, if you already have images for your blog, but they aren’t vertical, you’ll need to make new ones in order for your posts to be seen. If you don’t know how to make an eye-catching image for Pinterest, then try Canva, a graphic design tool that helps you easily build attractive and high-quality images for Pinterest. Make sure you put your website’s url address in the image, (usually at the bottom) so that they are aware of your brand.

6. Join group boardsPinterest Group board

There are many group boards that grant you access to thousands of followers simply by requesting an invite from the board administrator. Pin groupie.com is a great way of finding these boards and assessing how many followers/contributors they have prior to requesting an invite. You can also just follow other pinners and see what group boards they’ve joined. Pinterest has updated as of 2017 and the way to tell if a board is a group board is by looking at the circle enclosing images of multiple contributors. The instructions for requesting an invite from the administrator (the first image shown on the contributor list) are placed in the group board’s bio or their profile’s bio, it varies.

7. Invite others to Pin to your boards

Inviting others to pin to your boards is an easy thing to start doing and if you select your contributors wisely, it could build a huge audience. What you need to remember as an administrator of the group board is to pin to it regularly so that the contributors will want to pin to an active board.

8. Make your website’s Pinterest board the first one they see

This goes without saying really but it is an important one for businesses. As well as providing a neat preview of what you or the business is about, it also saves a lot of time as you can use this board as a base to share your pins out from.

9. Don’t scare away your followers

Getting followers is fun, but once you have them, you should try your best to keep them. And posting your website’s content all over their Pinterest homepage won’t go down well.

So as a rule, space your pins out and try for repinning 2-3 other posts every time you post from your own website.

10. Try to Pin like your followers

You need to spend some time analysing the outcome of your pins so that you can see which do well and which don’t. You should keep in mind these things when assessing your Pins on Pinterest:

  • When do you get the most repins?
  • What types of titles do well?
  • How do your Pin descriptions affect repinning?
  • What kind of people are repinning your content?

This will help you to better target your followers, as you can find out when they spend time online, to find this out, we have to consider when our followers are sleeping, eating, working etc.

11. Add a Pinterest profile widget to your website

By adding a Pinterest profile widget to your website you can display your pins neatly in your sidebar and thus get more followers on your Pinterest.

12. Use the Pinterest phone app

Pinterest has recently made an update (2017) where you can pin much faster by swiping over the pin with your thumb to repin. Using your phone can make using Pinterest seem less of a chore, as you can easily implement a habit of spending 5 minutes scrolling and tapping on your phone into your daily routine.

13. Comment on Popular Pins

Find popular pins in the popular section on Pinterest, assess which pins would be worth commenting on. Then proceed to make a meaningful and possibly helpful comment. If you can’t think of anything to write, what I tend to do is just leave a tab open and let it sit in my mind for a little while until something hits me.

14. Mention others in your pin descriptions

The content you’re pinning will likely have a Pinterest profile that you can @ to in the pin description. This simple trick shouldn’t be underestimated as what you can do is compliment the creator of the content behind the pin. People love getting appreciated for their efforts and if they have the time, they should be obliged to thank you for it in some way, either by a follow, a repin or a mention back at you.

15. Pin a lot!

Pin a lot! This method works as your followers want to see you as a valuable pinner who provides fresh content for their boards and followers. That being said, you should try to keep your content of high quality, rather than pinning anything you see that is related to your niche excessively.

Why You Aren’t Earning Money from your Blog – How to Add Value P1

Offering your own product vs Google Adsense

Josh Elizetxe from TomiAcademy.com reveals that his sites own product makes a lot more than when his website only had Google Adsense:josh-elizetxe

Creating and selling your own product on your blog isn’t as hard as you may think, all it requires is….

‘Specialist’ knowledge about your niche.

And if you have a blog with a niche, then you already have that don’t you? If you don’t have a blog, all you have to do is make one that has a specialized niche.

The Specialized Niche

This specialized niche can be about absolutely anything, as long as you think it has value and you think that there is plenty to teach someone about it.

When I say specialized, I mean a specific niche that stems from a broader niche. Here are some random examples:

3D animation and visualisation

Desert baking

Antique collecting

Brand identity design

Healthcare & Wellness

Online entrepreneurs

Watercolour Painter

T-shirt design

Car photography

Social media marketing

Wine

– so you see its good to base your niche on something you’re interested in, just pick one of your fondest hobbies, it could be anything, the more specific the better.

You could simply take up a new hobby and show the audience your progress, some examples include skin care, a new diet, a money making scheme or learning a musical instrument.

If you don’t know which niche to choose, then it’s good to consider something that you would be interested in learning about.

Your blog is where you store your research findings, through varied content which includes videos and images created by you. And remember, the more you learn, the more posts you’ll have to add to your blog.

So this is a great way to start a new hobby as you can also look back at how far you have come from start to finish. It works as a great incentive to learn and you will be sharing valuable information with others, which is a very good thing!

If you already have a blog, then you need to ask yourself if your niche is too broad. If you don’t want to change your blog into being more specific, then by all means you can create a new blog that is centred around your niche – and promote your new blog on your first blog.

The Winning Products:

Offering Consultation

Once your blog has been established and has gathered an audience, you can start to monetize it through offering consultation. You will be offering one-to-one consulting to customers either over the phone or through Skype at an hourly rate.

Because you are going to give people your undivided attention for an hour or more, then you can charge a premium price as that is what it will be worth, say £100 per hour.

If you don’t know what to tell them straight off the bat, here is a template which works with most niches- work with them to create a schedule that they will use for the next 2 weeks to a month (however long until your next consult).

Simply ask them questions about how much time they can devote to the objective, then pick out certain activities from a pre-made schedule that they can complete.

-Please note that to be successful in doing this, you should have gained credibility as a blogger and also gained a sufficient amount of knowledge to be able to answer questions that your consultant may have.

Offer a Video Collection &/or guidebook

You can offer a video collection or a PDF guidebook for a reasonable fee of between £10 – £20.00.

This will only involve some work at first from you and then can be set up as an automated email from mailchimp.com.

To design your guide, you could use Flipsnack which offers 1 months free trial (try to get it done in that time). Have a look at my article on how I used Flipsnack Here.

Promoting Your Product:

Sales Page

Your salespage will need to be strategically designed to make a reader desire your product. Lets go over what works when designing a sales page:

  1. I highly recommend reading Tom Hopkin’s article ‘Arouse Emotions, Don’t Sell Logic’, he tells us that positive emotions create sales and negative emotions destroy sales.
  2. A personal story about yourself – People what to know that they can trust you to deliver the goods, and what really works in gaining trust is a personal success story that the reader can relate to. They want to visualise themselves experiencing the success that you provide evidence for.
  3. Make sure the design is modern, clean and stylish. Don’t use primary colours like red and blue to make text stand out, it just looks spammy.
  4. Use bullet points to sum up what you’ll receive – we like short summaries, especially in a three section column format as seen here.
  5. Include quotes from previous customers – this will help the potential customer to feel comfortable with purchasing your product.

For designing your blog, click here to find out How to Design a Blog in 2016

Host a Webinar

A ‘Webinar’ is a great way of marketing your website and gaining a potential customer’s trust and confidence in your product and knowledge.

A webinar is basically a live workshop with an interactive audience where you demonstrate a method from whatever it is you’re teaching. You can offer to answer questions either along the way or at the end.

You can either charge for your Webinars, or you can host them for free, if you host them for free you’ll most probably gain more attention.

InstantPresenter is a useful tool I recommend for having people sign up to your Webinar.

Affiliate Marketing Programs

You can sign up to an affiliate marketing website as a client and offer any potential affiliates a percentage of the price of your product, 25 – 50% is a recommended price if you want to be promoted successfully.

Here is a list of Affiliate marketing programs where you can stage your product:

Rakuten LinkShare

Shareasale

Clickbank

JVZoo

MaxBounty

Neverblue

CJ Affiliate by Conversant

Market Health

Social Media Marketing

There are many tools we can use to promote something through social media. To see how you can make the most of Facebook’s advertising service, check my post: Facebook Marketing Secrets.

For free longterm advertising on Facebook with a one-time payment at the start, we have Octosuite, Facebooks only mass group posting application. It also finds the most viral content on Facebook, Reddit, YouTube and Twitter, which you can then scrape and schedule as your own social media posts. Another useful add-on is its syndication for Twitter, Linkedin and Pinterest.

Buffer – whilst Octosuite is good at finding external content, Buffer is very good for posting your own content as it offers a “rebuffer” option that speeds up the process. It schedules your social media posts (Mine: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest) for the best times to post in the day for each website. Since using it I have seen a dramatic increase in activity on my website and also in my hobbies. Click here for a 2 week free trial, after that, Buffer only charges you £10 a month!

Summary

So there you have a collection of reasons why your blog should be more targeted in order to increase both traffic and sales. It may take a while to get it going but the hard work and preparation will start to pay off, and when it does, you’ll be happy and deserve a pat on the back for staying focused.

How to Design a Blog in 2017 – 10 Rules to Obey When Designing Your Blog

How to Design a Blog in 2017 – 10 Rules to Obey When Designing Your Blog

If you’re an avid blog reader, you’ll know that blogs are now being made at a much higher standard than they once were.

So we must keep up with the trends. In 2017 we are in the age of the soundbite, readers value small and easily digested chunks of information. This is reflected in the growth of minimalistic blogs – in particular, ones found widely on Pinterest.

Recently I have taken to revamping my blog and in doing so have conducted a lot of research on what to consider when designing your blog.

So today I am sharing with you 10 rules I think you should try to obey when designing your blog.

Here are my 10 tips for designing a blog in 2017:

 1. Cater to your target audience

When deciding on an overall design, try to keep your target audience’s tastes in mind. Do your research and look at other blogs that use your particular niche, what colours do they use? Does the theme reflect the niche?

2. Using a clean and flexible theme.

WordPress themes will give a nice layout, but if you want more flexibility with the design and don’t know CSS coding then there are drag and drop builders like Divi and X.

3. Get your images at the right size for sharing on different social media sites.

For example think of the long featured images on Pinterest compared with the  rectangular images used on Twitter and Facebook.

4. Use Attractive Graphics

If you have no experience in graphic design or access to tools, then take a look at these free apps which will build you some very smart looking blog images.

Canva             Skitch             Pablo              Picmonkey                 Be Funky

As you can see with my blog’s featured images I am a fan of pretty flowers with symmetry and I use the very flexible Adobe Illustrator to just let the creativity flow.

5. Your reader likes empty space.

The more empty space you have, the more pleasing it is for the eyes. And the more you can direct the readers attention.

6. Use padding.

Use at least 50px left and right padding to neatly package your writing.

7. Don’t type hefty long paragraphs.

This way you can make your content seem manageable.

8. Don’t fill your text with advertisements.

Coming across as pushy with making money on your blog will put your readers off.

9. Studies show that we read in an F shape pattern down the webpage, scanning for the most relevant information to our query.

Take heed of this when writing your blog. Bullet points that summarise your main points will be valued as useful by your readers.

10. Graphic designers use varying font sizes to demonstrate the importance of information to the viewer.

In a blog post, we can make text stand out with different sized headings and the use of bold text. If you want another interesting way of highlighting text, you can give a section a border or a background colour.

So there we have 10 tips for designing your blog in 2017.

With these tips you have everything you need to get started designing your blog professionally.

How to Build Backlinks the Right Way – Learn How to Effectively Climb Up Google’s Search Listings

How to Build Backlinks the Right Way – Learn How to Effectively Climb Up Google’s Search Listings

What is a Backlink?

A backlink is a term used to refer to the an incoming hyperlink from one web page that is listed on a website. A website is more likely to appear in search engine listings like Google if it has a lot of backlinks.

How does it bring you traffic?

A back link can bring you traffic in two different ways.

  1. A blog that uses the information found on your blog and provides a link on their blog which directs their traffic to your content.
  2. A way of giving your website authority with Google search engine optimisation and getting higher in the search listings.

If backlinks are worked on little by little, they can eventually bring great success to your blog.

How to Build Backlinks

1. Use Informative Content

If you provide interesting and useful content then someone at some point down the line should provide a reference to the information they found on your website.

The same can be done with images, as it is a copyright requirement that an image used on a blog has a reference link in the caption area underneath.

Although this is a relatively long term strategy it will eventually pay off big-time.

2. Forums

Casually implementing your website when commenting on forums, notice boards and social networks can be a good but steady way of collecting backlinks.

It is important to invest some time into involving yourself in the forum community regarding your subject. As when commenting in these forums and chats you don’t want to come over as constantly pushing your website on people.

A better idea is to look for queries or issues on these forums and if your websites content is related to the matter then you can help someone out by providing them with your website’s useful content.

3. Request to feature guest content on a popular blog

In order to make your backlink profitable you should choose a to feature it on websites that are popular and well promoted otherwise your back link may not get very far.

You may have seen on websites a page link that says “Write for us”. Simply find some websites with similar content to yours and look for this link at the top or bottom of the page.

Look at that terms and conditions for featuring your blog on their guest post and if it’s clear that you can then apply for it.

4. Create videos for your content

This can be a good source of traffic for your blog as YouTube can climb quite high in Google’s search listings. Also you will score well with SEO as Google indexing technology likes informative content that features both text images and videos. You will also generate more traffic if you update your old posts with videos.

Your videos don’t need to be highly detailed, they can simply be a summary of your content and a way of directing viewers to more information on your website.

For branding your video with an intro and outro which includes your logo animated to a jingle, have a look at some of the services on offer on Fiverr.

To get 20% off your first purchase on Fiverr follow this link.

5. Submit your article to external websites

There are some popular websites where you can feature an article from your website and provide a backlink with it.

Here are some of the websites you can try:

6. Make your content as shareable as possible

Google loves it when your content takes a trip around social media as what it says is – this content is worth sharing.

This also means making sure that your content works with social media sharing links. If you have the time to edit your images so that they work well with content snippets in the social media links then do so.

7. If you must buy backlinks

Don’t buy crappy ones – an experiment by Anand from Shout Me Loud.com shows us that Google will penalize you if it finds your website in vague places around the internet that don’t relate to your website. Google also gets suspicious when you add hundreds of backlinks at one time. This will result in a dramatic drop in traffic, if you do happen to buy them and are penalized for low-quality links, you can just discredit these on Google’s Disavow Page Here. It is better to add 5-10 links each week at a maximum, and make sure they are high quality and are from a page with authority that is related to your content. LinksManagement.com hosts a marketplace to buy and sell backlink placements that are categorized by niche and by the website’s authority in Google. So if you must buy backlinks, do it on websites that measure authority and have categories that relate to your niche.

So these are the (mostly) white hat methods of backlinking your site to achieve authority in the Google search listings.
There are some impressive backlinking methods to be found at backlinko. One lucrative method in particular called ‘The Moving Man’, involves finding dead-links on Wikipedia, creating the missing content on your website and contacting all the users of the dead link to inform them that their link is dead and that they can use your link if they want. This is a great technique as these people will not be wanting a dead link on their site and so would be grateful to you for informing them.
